Final Project Paintings Part 1

For my final project in my Fieldwork class I have to create an "artists book" about what I have learned about myself this semester. Since I do journal entries that include small pen drawings, I decided to turn some of the drawings into paintings, which I will then collect into a book. AND since I have heard that I am not posting regularly enough, I will post the paintings here, one at a time when I have a few minutes in the morning...

New art?

I have been doing a lot of little drawings in my journal but I am writing all around them, so I won't post them here. However, for my final project for my class I will be assembling a book made of paintings inspired by the drawings I'm making, so I will show that instead.

So much stuff is going on I am barely making art. But it's okay, I do make those little drawings, maybe one day I will have time to really do some art...

The Boy That Was A Wolf

Okay my grammar isn't amazing but OH WELL.

This was today's project. We had to take the story of someone in our internship and turn it into a fairy tale, making up as much as we wanted. It only had to be 3-5 pages so it doesn't go very much in depth.

Anyway, I couldn't think of what to write, so I started making a book to house the fairy tale, and then I was able to write the story. I've never bound a book like this before so it took a couple of tries to figure out how to tie it tight enough. But I never looked at instructions! (I don't know if that's something to be proud of or not!)

Ginkgo

Ginkgo tree on our street ... I have never seen a ginkgo tree in bloom before, I guess except last summer, when I didn't really notice it. Ginkgo trees have leaves right on the main branches, unlike most trees I'm used to which grow little branches where the leaves hang. I don't know if that sentence makes sense, but anyway, yay ginkgo trees.

Spring is Finally Happening (in June)

This morning I stepped out of the house and saw dandelion pods swirling in the wind like snow! It was so fun and a great way to start the day (luckily I am not allergic). On the way home I took these pictures because it does kind of look like snow on the ground...

Home-made Ice Cream

JewishGuy and I made cookies-n-creme ice cream a little bit ago. He made the ice cream (in our new ice cream maker) and I made the cookies - Death By Chocolate cookies, a recipe I got from one of my teachers in school.

We just finished it last night... it was DELICIOUS. Definitely to be made again.

Art pictures coming eventually. This week has been insane!

UIC

UIC has a beautiful campus! Even on a gross day it looks really pretty. I took this picture when I was visiting the campus for an artist's lecture by Kara Walker.

Bouquet

On my last day of my internship we had an art festival, where we (interns) were thanked with bouquets. I came home and split up the bouquet into smaller vases to keep around the house.

חיים

Maybe it's lame but I titled this piece "חיים" which means "life" in Hebrew. I gave it that title because I was thinking about how the word chayim is plural, and there is no singular form of that word, and what the implications are. Our lives are made up of many different parts, different "lives," which we all have to integrate into our one life, our one word.

I made this piece after thinking a lot and before writing a paper on this topic. I interviewed artist Tobi Kahn before writing to hear what he had to say. I wish I could transcribe the interview and post it, but the recording program I used to capture our conversation through skype made this horrible static on the recording and I can't really hear it very well. I was able to sit through it to get most of what he was saying, but not enough for a word-for-word translation.

Anyway, that's my art post for now!

View of winter...

To remind myself of how it was, so I am grateful for the 60s and rainy weather in May. At least today doesn't have a high of -2, like in January, right?

I owe this blog some good posts. Here I am making art almost every day and sharing almost none of it. Maybe during the break I will take pictures and scan and update like a mad lady.
